As we continue to grow, we’re seeking an experienced First-Class Machinist—preferably with fitting experience—to join our skilled workshop team. About the role
In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for executing high-standard mechanical rebuilds of underground mining equipment in line with OEM specifications. Your work will directly contribute to the safety, reliability, and performance of machinery used on mine sites
Key Responsibilities
Proven capability in operating manual lathes, mills, and CNC machining centres to manufacture and recondition components for hydraulic and mining equipment. You will be working with modern workshop equipment, including a Mazak VCN-600, Mazak Quick Turn 350MY, and an Eumach FBE-3000 (Heidenhain control).
Machine items such as hydraulic cylinder rods, glands, pistons, sleeves, and wear components to tight tolerances.
Carry out thread repairs, chrome pre-grind, and precision surface finishing where required.
Maintain accuracy through use of micrometres, dial indicators, bore gauges, etc.
Work alongside hydraulic technicians, fitters, and testers to ensure equipment is restored to OEM or customer specs.
Interpret and work from technical drawings, manuals, and hydraulic schematics.
Collaborate with fitters, boilermakers, and other team members.
Follow workshop safety and QA procedures, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Keep a clean, safe, and well-organised work area.
Selection Criteria
What We're Looking For:
Qualified First-Class Machinist or trade-qualified Fitter Machinist (Cert III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent).
4 years plus experience operating both manual and CNC machines.
Background in hydraulics, mining, heavy industry, or similar sectors preferred.
Experience machining chrome-bar, large-diameter components, or complex threads highly regarded.
A strong focus on safety, quality workmanship, and team collaboration.
Able to work independently and prioritise jobs in a busy workshop environment.
Fitting or assembly experience with hydraulic/mechanical components is a strong bonus.
Culture driven and good communication skills
Current Australian Driver’s Licence
