About the role

Makin Mattresses is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Permanent Sales Person to join our Newcastle NSW store. This is a full-time position offering an excellent opportunity to become part of a dynamic retail team in the thriving consumer products sector. As a Sales Person, you will be at the heart of our business, delivering outstanding customer service and driving sales in a fast-paced retail environment. This role is essential to our mission of helping customers find the perfect mattress solutions whilst building lasting relationships and contributing to the success of our Newcastle location.

Key responsibilities

1. Greeting customers warmly and professionally, understanding their needs and preferences to provide personalised mattress recommendations

2. Demonstrating product features and benefits effectively to help customers make informed purchasing decisions

3. Building rapport with customers and creating a welcoming shopping experience that encourages repeat business

4. Processing sales transactions accurately and efficiently, including handling payments and completing necessary paperwork

5. Maintaining knowledge of current product range, pricing, promotions and special offers to communicate effectively with customers

6. Keeping the sales floor clean, organised and visually appealing, with products displayed attractively

7. Achieving individual and team sales targets whilst maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction

8. Assisting with stock management, including receiving and rotating inventory as required

9. Collaborating with team members to ensure smooth store operations and provide mutual support

10. Handling customer enquiries and complaints professionally, escalating issues when necessary

What we're looking for

1. Proven experience in retail sales, preferably within furniture, home furnishings or consumer goods retail

2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage customers from diverse backgrounds

3. Strong sales ability with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets

4. Customer service excellence and a genuine passion for helping people find solutions to their needs

5. Reliable, punctual and committed to maintaining professional standards

6. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

7. Physical capability to demonstrate products and assist with moving mattresses safely

8. Flexibility to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays as required

9. Product knowledge or willingness to quickly learn about mattress types, construction and features

10. Positive attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to go the extra mile for customers
