About the Role

Cougar Drilling is seeking an experienced and motivation Workshop Fitter to join our Drilling Workshop team in Thornton. This is a hands-on role responsible for the maintenance, fault-finding, repair and servicing of underground mobile plant and drilling equipment to ensure maximum reliability, safety, and operational performance. Working in a fast-paced workshop environment, you'll play a critical role in keeping equipment operational while support workshop productivity and maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, servicing, and repairs on underground mobile plant and drilling equipment

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic faults using schematics and technical documentation

  • Complete commissioning, testing, and equipment inspections to ensure reliability and operational readiness

  • Accurately complete maintenance records, work orders, equipment condition reports, and related documentation

  • Manage and monitor critical spare parts, maintenance consumables, and lubricants

  • Identify and report equipment defects, risks, non-conformances, and compliance issues

  • Maintain compliance with company, legislative, OEM and site safety requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Certificate IV in Hydraulics

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Fitter

  • Strong experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical and hydraulic systems

  • Ability to confidently interpret complex hydraulic schematics for fault-finding and maintenance

  • Strong troubleshooting capability with the ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions

Highly Regarded

  • Prior sign-off as an Underground Fitter

  • Experience working on underground drilling equipment, particularly UIS Drill Rigs

  • Underground machine appointments, including loader and/or man-transporter
