Edgeworth Animal Medical Centre is seeking an experienced, reliable and compassionate Veterinary Nurse to join our team for a maternity leave cover position from September 2026 to August 2027.
This position would suit a confident veterinary nurse who enjoys working as part of a supportive team, takes pride in high standards of patient care, and can remain calm, organised and positive in a busy small animal practice.
The role is 3–4 days per week, with availability across our usual clinic hours 8am - 6pm required. Some Saturday morning availability will be required as part of a rotating weekend roster.

Edgeworth Animal Medical Centre is a privately owned small animal veterinary practice located in Edgeworth, Newcastle NSW.
Our team cares for a wide range of patients, including dogs and cats, as well as avian and exotic species. This creates the opportunity to work in an interesting and rewarding environment with some more unusual patients alongside our regular small animal caseload.

About the role
As an experienced veterinary nurse, you will be involved in a variety of nursing duties, including:
Surgical and hospital nursing of a variety of species including reptiles and birds
Anaesthetic induction, maintenance and monitoring; as well as patient recovery
Dental procedure support including charting, scaling and polishing
Counselling clients through patient admissions and discharges
Client communication and education, including patient updates, nutrition, and post surgical recalls
Independent nurse consults for injections, nail trims, etc.
Pathology sample collection and processing
Radiography support
Preparation and administration of medications
Maintenance of hospital, surgery and treatment areas and equipment
Supporting smooth patient workflow throughout the day
Working collaboratively with vets, nurses, reception and management
About you
We are looking for someone who:
Is an experienced veterinary nurse, with Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent.
Is confident with both surgical and hospital nursing of a variety of patients
Will remain organised, calm and kind when under pressure
Demonstrates professionalism through reliability, punctuality and a team-focused attitude
Is confident communicating with clients and colleagues in a friendly, professional manner
Will engage with our systems and protocols proactively, and contribute to further policy development where required
Shows enthusiasm for growth and development of their skills and knowledge; and accepts feedback as an opportunity for learning and development
Takes an active approach to problem solving, and shows initiative, while also knowing when to ask for help
Prioritises patient safety, comfort and welfare, and upholds high standards of patient care, exhibiting excellent attention to detail
Strives to be a positive influence in a busy team environment; collaborating in a professional and sensitive manner
Be able to receive and provide feedback in a positive and learning oriented way
Experience with exotics or avian patients would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
