About the role:

This role requires a strong electrical background, supports the performance and reliability of locomotives across the Hunter Valley and NSW region, based at our Kooragang facility in Newcastle. However, the role will involve some support of other facilities in Queensland and NSW from time to time. You will monitor daily fleet performance, assist with troubleshooting, and work with maintenance teams and suppliers to improve availability. The role also involves working closely with engineering teams and customers, providing updates on fleet performance and responding to technical queries.

 

About you:

  • Qualifications in an Electrical field (trade or engineering preferred), with openness to other relevant experience and backgrounds

  • Extensive experience in a similar role supporting locomotive maintenance will be highly regarded

  • Proven experience working with complex electrical and mechanical systems, including the use of PC-based diagnostic tools

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a solid understanding of root cause analysis principles

  • Experience implementing reliability programs within rolling stock, asset management, or heavy maintenance environments

  • Exposure to project or systems engineering is advantageous

  • Experience in testing and commissioning rolling stock or heavy industry assets will be highly regarded.


 Job tasks and responsibilities:

  • Monitor and review daily locomotive fleet performance and status

  • Conduct troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and failure reporting

  • Manage failure investigations and communicate findings to customers

  • Support locomotive trial runs following major maintenance activities

  • Review condition monitoring data to identify faults and required interventions

  • Drive reliability improvement initiatives based on performance insights

  • Develop, review, and enhance technical maintenance plans and documentation

  • Support Maintenance Delivery Managers to ensure quality and high workmanship standards

  • Ensure maintenance standards are consistently applied across the fleet and scope of work

  • Raise and assess equipment non-conformance reports

  • Provide clear technical instructions and support for unplanned or out-of-scope work

  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to deliver technical support

  • Liaise with customers, providing updates and technical information on fleet performance
