HSE Safety Advisor - Hunter Valley NSW Projects

Australian Construction Group is a growing construction service provider with capabilities in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Process Piping and Electrical Construction, based in Newcastle NSW.

We require a motivated, reliable, and collaborative individual to fill a full-time position currently available within the Company for an HSE Safety Advisor.

You will have the opportunity to work on our Hunter Valley NSW Projects. 

This position is available for immediate onboarding.

A challenging role in our growing business, you will be:

  • Providing support to the Project Manager and site personnel, 

  • Ensuring copies of relevant legislation, codes of practice are readily accessible to all site personnel.

  • Provide Health and Safety guidance in resolving issues with a view to continuous improvement and elimination of any future Health and Safety incidents.

  • Ensuring ACG and site safety inductions are completed, current to legislation and business requirements and ensure compliance. 

  • Stopping any work deemed unsafe and intervening on all unsafe behaviours and undertaking all necessary controls to rectify the danger or correct the behaviour prior to recommencing works.

  • Liaising with the Client in the preparation and maintenance of the Project Risk Register

  • Assisting our Client with emergency response training drills and exercises.

  • Reviewing training records and qualifications to ensure each person is competent to perform tasks associated with their position.

  • Conducting formal/ informal audits on the projects compliance and participate in workplace hazard inspections.

  • Reviewing SWMS, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for compliance to the project standards.

  • Advising the Project Manager and Safety Manager of the state of Health and Safety as applied to the project.

  • Ensuring compliance to ACG systems including, plant and equipment processes, risk management and training requirements.

  • Ensuring statistics are reported in line with project and overall business requirements.

  • Completion of incident investigations and reports

  • Engaging with site supervision in the completion of required KPI’s

  • Liaising with the ACG Safety Manager in regard to the Projects HSE status and requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Cert IV in WHS

  • ICAM lead investigation Training

  • Certification in drug and alcohol testing

  • First aid within 3 years

  • Level 2 Confined Space within 3 years

  • Safe Working at Heights within 3 years

  • General Construction Induction 

  • HRWL EWP, Rigging, Crane (desirable)

  • Cert IV TAE (Desirable)

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Strong ability to prioritise, and manage multiple competing tasks

  • Strong analysis and problem-solving ability with attention to detail

  • Exceptional communication and organisational skills 

  • Highly motivated and proactive

  • High level of computer literacy, including MS Office suite skills i.e Word, Excel, Outlook Adobe etc.

  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role is highly desirable
