Backspace Living – Newcastle / Lake Macquarie
Backspace Living is a premium residential builder specialising in custom secondary dwellings, with over 11 years of experience and more than 550 homes delivered across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and surrounding regions.
We are a close-knit team that values quality, transparency, accountability and culture. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Delivery Coordinator to play a key role in both pre-construction and project delivery.
The Role
This is a unique hybrid position that combines estimating, project coordination and construction delivery support. You will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle from initial pricing and tendering through to construction planning, subcontractor coordination and project delivery.
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the commercial and practical aspects of residential construction and wants to take ownership of projects beyond the estimating phase.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Pre-Construction
Prepare accurate cost estimates from plans, specifications and consultant documentation.
Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Review project feasibility, construction methodologies and cost-saving opportunities.
Assist with tender preparation and contract handover processes.
Project Delivery & Coordination
Manage project setup following contract execution.
Prepare purchase orders, subcontractor scopes and procurement schedules.
Assist with construction programming and project scheduling.
Coordinate suppliers, subcontractors and consultants throughout construction.
Monitor project budgets, variations and cost reporting.
Work closely with site teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
Assist in resolving construction, procurement and scheduling issues as they arise.
Support & Growth
You won’t be thrown in the deep end. We have established systems, templates and workflows, along with ongoing support from the Director and wider team.
Importantly, this role will be supported by a Junior Construction Manager, allowing you to focus on higher-level estimating, coordination and project delivery responsibilities while maintaining oversight of project outcomes.
This position offers genuine opportunities for growth and leadership as the business continues to expand.
About You
A genuine team player who enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to a positive team culture.
Experience in residential construction estimating, project management or a similar role.
Strong understanding of residential construction methods, sequencing and costing.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
Confident communicator who can build strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and internal stakeholders.
High attention to detail and strong commercial awareness.
Proactive, accountable and willing to take ownership of outcomes.
Comfortable working autonomously while also supporting and being supported by the wider team.
Someone who aligns with our values of quality, transparency, accountability and continuous improvement.
What We Offer
Competitive salary package based on experience.
Supportive and collaborative team environment.
Established systems and processes.
Opportunity to work on high-quality custom residential projects.
Long-term career progression and leadership opportunities within a growing business.
A happy and valued work environment where you have good respected people around you who care.
Remuneration will be aligned to experience, capability and responsibility.
