Project & Management Pros is seeking a Tax Accountant to join our dynamic team in Newcastle NSW. This is a full-time position that offers a strategic opportunity to develop and demonstrate your taxation expertise within a growing accountancy practice. As a Tax Accountant, you will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive tax advisory and compliance services to our diverse client base, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and value-add strategies that support business growth and tax efficiency.

What you'll be doing

  • Prepare and lodge tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and companies, ensuring full compliance with current taxation legislation and ATO requirements

  • Conduct tax planning and strategy sessions with clients to identify opportunities for tax minimisation and improved financial outcomes

  • Review financial records and documentation to identify discrepancies, ensure accurate reporting, and provide clients with detailed tax advice

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current taxation laws, rulings, and regulatory changes to provide timely and relevant advice to clients

  • Liaise with clients and external stakeholders to gather necessary information and clarify tax matters

  • Manage tax compliance deadlines and maintain organised files to ensure timely completion of tax obligations

  • Assist with tax dispute resolution and represent clients in correspondence with the ATO where required

  • Contribute to the development of tax advisory solutions tailored to client circumstances and business objectives

  • Support the tax team during busy periods and collaborate with colleagues to deliver quality outcomes

What we're looking for

  • Professional qualification in accounting (CPA, CA, or equivalent) or demonstrated equivalent experience in tax accounting

  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience in tax preparation and compliance within an accounting firm or corporate environment

  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian taxation law, including income tax, capital gains tax, GST, and superannuation

  • Proficiency with tax software and accounting systems, such as MYOB, Xero, or similar platforms

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in preparing tax documentation

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to provide practical tax solutions

  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex taxation concepts to clients and colleagues

  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and staying current with taxation updates

  • Preferred: Experience in SME tax planning, payroll tax, or property taxation matters
