Intermediate Tax Accountant

$75,000 - $90,000 + super

Fabulous opportunity for an ambitious intermediate accountant to join one of Newcastle's largest and most respected locally owned accounting firms. This firm draws on a leadership team with over 180 years of combined experience to deliver tailored accounting, tax and advisory services to a diverse client base.

About the role:

You will be responsible for handling client files from start to finish, being delegated workflow from senior accountants and managers. You may also be asked to speak with clients via phone/email with general queries and advice, with the eventual goal to get you client facing as soon as you're comfortable.

  • Prepare financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships, and sole traders

  • Prepare and lodge income tax returns, BAS, IAS, and FBT returns

  • Assist with Div 7A, CGT and FBT calculations under the guidance of senior accountants

  • Maintain accurate client files and ensure all compliance deadlines are met

  • Liaise with the ATO and other regulatory bodies to resolve queries


What you will bring:

  • 2-3+ years previous experience working in an Australian accounting firm

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting/commerce/finance

  • Knowledge of MYOB and XERO

  • CA/CPA in progress, or looking to begin

  • Excellent attention to detail & good organisational skills

  • A willingness to collaborate, & work in a team

  • Ambition & drive to progress in your role/the business


To be considered you will ideally have: 

  • Your CA/CPA Qualifications or studying towards

  • Strong tax compliance interpretation skills

  • 2-3 + years’ experience in an Australian Accounting Firm

  • Experience producing tax returns and financial statements for companies, trusts and partnerships and calculating Division 7A, CGT and FBT

  • Experience with Xero (preferred)
