Opportunity to join one of Newcastle’s longest‑established law firms, known for their commitment to excellence, integrity, and client service. They are seeking a highly organised, detail‑driven Finance Officer to join the team in a full‑time capacity on site.

About the Role

As the Finance Officer, you will be responsible for the smooth operation of the firm’s financial, trust, payroll, and reporting functions. Working closely with the General Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all financial processes.

This is a hands‑on role with a strong focus on daily accounting tasks, trust account compliance, payroll processing, and monthly reporting.

The role will also be heavily involved in the migration from MYOB to Xero

Key Responsibilities
Accounting
  • Enter creditor invoices into MYOB daily
  • Process EFT and direct credit payments
  • Reconcile MYOB receivables/payables with CBA activity
  • Manage accounts payable and credit card reconciliations
  • Run monthly MYOB reports including P&L and Trial Balance
  • Monitor lease, license, and subscription payments
  • Manage petty cash and internal company loan records
  • Process IAS, PAYG, BAS when required
  • The role will also be heavily involved in the migration from MYOB to Xero to help eliminate some of the more manual tasks
Trust Account Compliance (this can be taught)
  • Review daily trust account movements
  • Verify instructions and authorities with the GM
  • Run end‑of‑month trust reconciliations and reports
  • Assist with annual trust audit requirements
Payroll
  • Prepare and reconcile fortnightly payroll
  • Enter payroll into MYOB and submit to ATO
  • Process superannuation, payroll tax, deductions, and final payments
  • Load payroll for payment via CBA
Reporting & Office Support
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports
  • Maintain financial records (hard copy & SharePoint)
  • Manage kitchen supplies and Coles account
  • Support the General Manager and broader team as required
About You
You will bring a strong eye for detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting a busy legal practice.

Desired Skills
  • A number of years in a similar role, ideally in a professional services type culture
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Ability to work with repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy
  • Ideally experiences with either MYOB or Xero
